BUPA and AXA/PPP ophthalmology networks

Letter to all consultant ophthalmologists

7 February 2007

Dear Doctor

The Ophthalmic Group Committee’s regional members have received feedback from their colleagues which shows that Ophthalmologists are declining to join network arrangements in Central and Greater London, North and South Thames, East Anglia, East and West Midlands, Thames Valley, South Coast, West Country, Merseyside, the North West and North East of England.

Our advice remains that managed networks will fundamentally compromise patient choice in the short term and quality of care for patients in the medium to long term. It is for each individual ophthalmologist to decide whether to participate in network arrangements or not.

I will keep you fully informed of progress.

Yours sincerely

Mr Rhod Daniel
Chairman
Ophthalmic Group Committee
