IT programme in Scotland
The National eHealth/IM&T Strategy - 'Delivering for Health' was published in Scotland in April 2004. Developments in Scotland will be largely based on existing structures and the procurement of a set of products rather than a single system. Main components of the programme include:
- Community Health Index (CHI) Number - a unique identifier for each individual patient
- Emergency Care Summary - enables patient summary data to be accessed by out of hours services
- Scottish Care Information Store - an information repository of patient information such as clinical letters and diagnostic results
- Picture Archiving and Communication System - enables the acquisition, storage and retrieval of digital patient images
- Emergency Department Information System - a national A&E system
