Future developments

As the PLG increases its experience it can play a more significant and effective role as part of the BMA. Important in this has been the recruitment of new members who help to bring new ideas and vigour to the group.
Increased awareness through its project work will help to demonstrate the value of the PLG. For example, a resource on patient participation groups will provide practical guidance for GP practices on how to involve patients for the good of the practice.
The PLG will continue working in partnership with other parts of the BMA to develop policy and resources for the benefit of both doctors and patients.
What members have said is good about belonging to the PLG
“Sharing ideas and learning, being associated with an organisation I respect, being part of other committees and working as a team.”
“Engaging with informed, articulate patients.”
“Working with lay, doctor and secretariat colleagues to influence an increasingly wide range of the work of the BMA to recognise and respond to the patient and public perspective.”
“Seeing doctors listen to patients.”
“An opportunity to share patient concerns with other like minded people and to create opportunities for change within medical health practice.”
“Seeing that the BMA has taken on board a patient’s perspective.”
“Being valued and appreciated, and meeting others who are as passionate as you are about making a difference and that appropriate care is delivered.”
