The BMA has a paid staff of around 600 in BMA House and local offices throughout the UK. The staff of the BMA is led by the BMA Secretary, while the editor of the BMJ is chief executive of the BMJ Publishing Group. Both are full-time appointments made by the Council of the BMA.
National offices in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast provide a focus for members in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and represent the profession in these countries. National secretaries and their staff support the national committees and negotiations and provide services for members.
Local office staff in England provide services to members including advice and support to local BMA divisions, regional committees and training for locally elected officers of the Association.
