The DDRB award for 2006/2007

The Doctors' & Dentists' Review Body recommended a general increase of 2.2% from April 2006 for junior doctors and consultants. Other doctors in the hospital and community health services will receive an increase of 2.4%. It was not required to make any recommendations for GP principals. The government has accepted all the DDRB's recommendations and they will be implemented in full from 1 April 2006, except for the award to consultants which will not be paid in full until 1 November 2006. An increase of 1% will be paid to consultants from April to October.

Doctors in training grades - out of hours payments
From 1 December 2000 a new pay system was introduced for remunerating out-of-hours duties undertaken by hospital and public health doctors in training. Each post is allocated to a salary band depending on whether:
  • it meets the New Deal limits on hours of work and rest requirements
  • number of hours actually worked
  • type of working pattern, and anti-social nature of working arrangements
  • intensity of work

The total salary for a post is calculated by applying a multiplier to the basic salary. The multipliers from December 2002 for doctors working full time are:

Band 2B

GP registrars receive a supplement of 65% of their salary.
